Tete Print Artwork - About
One of the greatest assets an artist owns is their images. As you know, even after an original painting is sold the artist still owns the exclusive rights to the image of the work. Until recently, because of my many acquired "art snob" attitudes, I never explored the possibilities of using my images or turning them into new objects. In the past, publishers would find artists with great bodies of work and buy the rights to the images for pennies. The next thing the artist knew their art was being used in ways that denigrated their reputation. I was approached to sell my image rights. I have not pursued the offers as I want to maintain control over my art and my artistic credibility.
I believe many of my self imposed rules of what it meant to be an artist were lost the first time when I saw my Tetes on the Walla Faces wine bottles. As this was my brothers wine, the minute he asked to use my images I, of course, said yes. There is also a long history of artists creating wine labels and good wine is at the top of my "What I love lists", so you can imagine my excitement when I saw myTetes on the bottles. As an artist one of my goals has always been for people to see my work and now each year with Walla Faces more then 15,000 extra people will see it. People have been saving their Walla Faces bottles and asking for the empties at the tasting room. I heard they were being turned into lamps and candle holders. This all pleases me immensely.
Using my images and today's technology I have been able to create entirely new Tetes called Tete Installations - An Interactive Artwork for your Pleasure. I am in love with them and hope you check out the gentle giant concept in the Tete Installation Gallery. This was another winning collaberation between Walla Faces and myself.
I also have been making tiles, napkin square holders and six sided wooden block Tetes . None of these objects are going to be mass produced. I am still the hands behind everything I sell.
If you have some ideas for my images please do let me know!
